What type of baggage can you bring in the cabin? Size, weight, number, accessories permitted and more: here's all you need to know to prepare your hand baggage.
The information below is provided solely for reference purposes and only applies to flights provided by Air France and HOP! Air France. On flights provided by one of our partners, the operating airline's baggage rules may be different. Please check the website of the airline providing your flight.
If the baggage rules vary within the same trip, we recommend that you follow the most restrictive rules.

How many baggage items?

The total number and weight of hand baggage items you can bring depends on your travel cabin.

International flights

Exception for flights departing from the United States
For all international flights departing from the United States, you can bring 1 hand baggage item + 1 accessory:
  • In the Economy cabin, 1 hand baggage item + 1  accessory = 12 kg / 26 lb
  • In the Premium Economy, Business and La Première cabins, 1 hand baggage item + 1 accessory = 18 kg / 39 lb

Flights within metropolitan France

In addition to your hand baggage, you can bring 1 personal accessory.
You can choose to bring one of the following:
  • 1 handbag
  • Or 1 briefcase
  • Or 1 small bag for a notebook computer, camera or any other electronic device
Your accessory must fit easily under the seat in front of you, unless you are seated in an emergency exit row. In this case, you must stow your accessory in an overhead storage bin.

You may bring the following items with you in the cabin and they do not count as your hand baggage or accessory:
  • Jacket, coat or other clothes you are wearing
  • Umbrella
  • Duty-free items purchased on your flight or at the airport
  • Special baggage such as collapsible strollers, car seats, diaper bags, medical material (wheelchair, crutches, etc.), animal transport bag

Please note: a garment bag is considered as a standard hand baggage item, not as an accessory.

Size and weight limits for hand baggage

Size limit for hand baggage

Your hand baggage must not exceed the following dimensions: 55 x 35 x 25 cm / 21.7 x 13.8 x 9.8 in, including pockets, wheels and handles.

Your baggage must fit easily into the bag check basket available at the airport, in the check-in, baggage drop-off and boarding areas. Our staff will check the size of your hand baggage prior to boarding. Any baggage item that does not meet the rules must be checked and transported in the hold. A fee may apply.

Weight limit for hand baggage

The combined weight of your hand baggage item and accessory must not exceed 12 kg / 26 lb or 18 kg / 39 lb, depending on your travel cabin. Your travel cabin is indicated on your ticket.
Depending on the type of aircraft, your baggage may not be accepted in the cabin, even if it complies with the hand baggage rules. In this case, it will be checked and transported in the hold, at no charge.

Liquid goods permitted in the cabin

You can transport liquid goods in your hand baggage, as long as you respect the following conditions:
- Containers must be placed in a clear, sealed plastic bag
- Each container in the bag must not exceed 100 ml / 3.4 fl. oz.
- The volume of the bag must not exceed 1 liter / 33.8 fl. oz.
- The dimensions of the bag must not exceed 20 x 20 cm / 7.8 x 7.8 in

Please note: each passenger may bring one clear plastic bag.

Where should I stow my hand baggage?

Your hand baggage must be stowed in the overhead storage bins located above your seat.
Your personal item must be placed under the seat in front of you, unless you are seated in an emergency exit row. In this case, the accessory must be stowed in an overhead storage bin.

Connecting flights

If you have a connecting flight provided by another airline, please review and respect the baggage transport rules set by this airline.
These rules may be different from the Air France baggage rules. We recommend that you respect the most restrictive rules for the entirety of your trip.
